Minnesota State AAU Tournament
15u Pool Play
MN SUNS ELLEN 51, 43 HOOPS WILLIAMS 37
This was the second 15u game I saw on Sunday. I hadn't seen MN Suns Ellen and since they were the 2nd seed and it fit into the schedule, they were charted.
After a low scoring first half by both teams, MN Suns Ellen beat 43 Hoops Williams 51-37. 43HW started off the game on their first possession with a three by Jolene Blood. After that the fell into a 14 possession drought and trailed 11-3 before scoring again. Six of those possessions ended up as turnovers. MSE wasn't ripping up the nets either. They were 3/14 to start the contest--a .214 floor %. 43HW did cut the margin to six a couple of times before MSE inched further ahead at half time 19-11. 43HW had a 36.7 pp100 in the first half, just above freezing. MSE checked in at 61.2, but still that is not near the gold standard.
The pent up offenses made up for lost time at the start of the second half. In the first 11 possessions combined the floor % zoomed out to .727, and the pp100 zipped up to 145.5. MSE scored on their first five possessions to start the half. Emily Eschrich had six of the points in a 10-3 run. MSE led 29-14 at that point. The rest of the game 43HW tried to scrape back in the contest. They did get the lead down to single digits a couple of times, the last coming at 41-32 with about four minutes left. The droughts that plagued both teams in the first half came back to bite 43HW with a six possession dilemma at that point. MSE padded their totals out to 46-32. MSE finished the game squeezing at least a point off their last five possessions.
