NEW ULM CATHEDRAL greyhounds 48
ST. PETER saints 37

Class A New Ulm Cathedral built up an 18 point lead in the second half and withstood a comeback rally by the hosts in a 48-37 win over AA St. Peter.

It was all NUC in the first half. They scored early and often, but was hampered by 50% free throw shooting. It was 8-1 after NUC's scored on five of their first 7 possessions. NUC scored in transition, or at the line because of fouls in transition, early. St. Peter on the other hand was content with playing on the perimeter. When they did score it was due to second shots. Five of their 8 first half points were on second chancers. The key part of the game was the epic 18 straight dry possessions by St. Peter to close out the first half. They went the last 8 minutes without scoring. Seven of the 18 possessions were due to turnovers. They had chances. Oh how they had chances. On one possession alone they had four cracks at scoring. By the same odd coincidence so did NUC late in the half.
NUC started the half with a pp100 of 114.3 and floor % .714. They finished the half 57.7 and .308. St. Peter for the half was even frostier with 25.0 and .125. That chilly first half offensive performance proved to be fatal.

NUC pushed their lead to 28-8 to start the half, the largest of the game. They would only score two more two point field goals the rest of the game. NUC maintained an 18 point margin throughout the half. The last time was at 40-18 with six minutes left. St. Peter then started pressing. Even though there really wasn't any NUC turnovers involved, it did ignite a sense of urgency. St. Peter finished the game with a 15-8 run. St. Peter did close to 43-35 with 1:17 left. After that point NUC halted their momentum closing out 5-2. Time was not on their side and the smaller school took the bus ride home with the win.
