8AAA SEMIFINALS
PERHAM yellowjackets 63, WILLMAR cardinals 53

3rd game of four

We got up to St. Cloud right before halftime when Perham led #1 South Willmar 39-17. I only will have numbers for the second half. Hastings is about 2 hours from St. Cloud.

This was an upset that raised some eyebrows. Willmar plays in the Central Lakes conference a AAAA/AAA level conference and finished in 4th place behind St. Cloud Tech, Brainerd, and Fergus Falls; Perham plays in a AA conference the Heart O'Lakes and finished 6th behind Hawley, DGF, Barnesville, West Central and Ulen-Hitterdal.

From what my sources at the game said Perham ran Willmar early in the game. Perham had a 22 point half time lead. They need all the cushion they could because Willmar came out in the second half with their sharpshooters zeroed in on the basket. They converted eight 3s in the second half, but it wasn't enough. Willmar got as close as 58-53 with 1:26 to go, but Tara Sailer made her free throws with 1:04 left and then added two more on the next possession and Perham advances to the finals next Friday at St. John's.
