6AAAA QUARTERFINALS
BLOOMINGTON KENNEDY eagles 73,

EAGAN wildcats 51

In a game that was postponed one day, it was two Lake conference rivals playing the rubber game of their series this year. #3 seed Bloomington Kennedy left no doubt on who was the better team. Eagan won the first game in the series this year 64-60. Kennedy took the second game 63-47. Kennedy is now 17-9. Eagan finishes 8-18, but they had a pair of games last week that raised some eyebrows. They lost to #1 seed in 6AAAA Mpls South 68-66 in overtime and beat #1 seed in 1AAAA Rosemount 66-65.

Kennedy's Tara Steinbauer dominated all facets of the game this evening. She had 26 points and scored the first seven times she shot the ball. She also cleaned up in the defensive wrap section with 15 wraps, a double double, she also contributed 6 assists.

Both teams started off extremely hot. Apparently the snow days didn't hurt their shooting eyes early. Five straight possessions ended up as scores. After a 6 all tie Eagan stalled. They had a 6 possession drought, all missed shots. After they scored they went into another 8 possession drought. Kennedy took advantage of the Eagan downturn with a 15-0 run. Kennedy had a four possession scoring string late in the half. Steinbauer had 18 points at halftime as Kennedy led 38-18.

Kennedy wasn't as hot early in the second half with a 7 posssession drought. Eagan didn't really take advantage but did cut the margin to 44-27. But the fact was Eagan never got closer. Eagan did manage to score 33 points in the half, but Kennedy had 35. Kennedy now moves on to the 6AAAA semis at Prior Lake on Tuesday. They will face Eastview, 66-38 winners over Richfield.

Kennedy moved the ball better and found the open person for better shots. They also took good shots and worked the ball in the paint for most of their shots. Eagan was content to take shots on the perimeter more often than not. Their post game was not in the same category as Kennedy's. In games I have seen Kennedy this year they have had a window on their offense pp100 95 to 113. Kennedy, with the three games aveages 103.7 and .495 floor %. Eagan's average in two games has been 74 and .346. Defensively this was the most Kennedy gave up in the 3 games I have seen.

If you look at the starters for Kennedy four were over the gold standard, even if they didn't have 10 possessions. Eagan didn't have any. Eagan did have Katie Hofstad hit the 200 pp100 mark, but she was off the bench. One odd fact is that Kennedy didn't get to the line that much. They only cashed in for four points. Eagan was much more active in drawing fouls and had four times as many points at the line than Kennedy.
