3AAAA CHAMPIONSHIP
ST. PAUL CENTRAL minutemen 97,

CRETIN-DERHAM HALL raiders 58

#1 seed, and #1 overall in the state Central punches the first ticket in AAAA with a convincing win over #3 CDH 97-58. SPC is the only unblemished team left in the state at 29-0. CDH finishes 20-9.

St. Paul Central scored early and often against the #3 seed Cretin-Derham Hall. The game featured the match up of point guards Angel Robinson (SPC) and Alyssa Karel (CDH) but it was all Robinson and all Central all night. Early on it was SPC's Megan Howard and Theairra Taylor that dominated with the first 10 SPC points and all but 2 of the first 16. CDH did put up a spirited fight early matching the SPC scoring. CDH scored on six straight possessions, and it was a 14-6 run, but at 11:04 Alyssa Karel picked up her 3rd foul. SPC led 20-19 at the time. With Karel out SPC moved out in front 25-19. Karel came back in at the 8:09 mark to try and stop the slide. But the rapid flow of the game, the speed, the quickness were taking their toll on CDH. SPC outscored CDH 29-14 the last 8 minutes. SPC scored on their last 8 possessions. Georgie Jones kicked off that 15-3 run with 6 straight points. SPC led 54-33 at half. By the way CDH on average allows 57.8 a game. SPC was only four off the pace at half.

It was more of the same except more so in the second half. SPC led 70-42 at the 13 minute mark, 79-47 at the 9 minute mark. 91-46 at the 6 minute mark. With the deep bench the century mark proved to be elusive. SPC had a 9 possession scoring string in the middle of the half with a 19-2 outburst. In the second half Howard racked up 16 points. Alyssa Karel left the game at 2:58 to a prolonged standing ovation from the CDH faithful. SPC now moves on as the heavy favorite in AAAA.

How dominating is SPC? consider this--take away the last 12 possessions and their pp100s is 129.2 and floor % is .625. The weapons of choice were blazing. This team is now playing for legacy bragging rights. They are chasing the Rochester Mayo team with the Miller Twins. They are chasing Mpls North with Moore and Horton. They are leaving a huge footprint that others will use as the measuring stick of success. Early in the year to now there has been a huge improvement as one would expect with new players melding into the system. They have the momentum of a runaway freight train and there aren't many squads that will be able to slow that down. One more word, there is room for improvement. That should give many teams the cold sweats.
SPC had 29 points on second chance points, 44 from transition points.
