2A SOUTH SUBSECTION FINALS
SPRINGFIELD tigers 61, NICOLLET raiders 47

Nicollet led 36-24 early in the second half before Springfield rallied to win. In the contest Springfield's Krystal Schwanke reached the 1000 point mark. Springfield moves on to the 2A finals at MSU Mankato on Friday with a 20-7 record. Nicollet finishes the year 21-7.

Springfield opened scoring by going inside. They didn't score on the initial shots, but on the putbacks. Alissa Domeier and Tori Jones each converted for Springfield. Springfield maintained their lead throughout most of the first half, but both teams had problems finding the basket for good stretches of the first half. Springfield had a drought of 7, 6, and another 6 in the first half. Nicollet had a five possession drought. Springfield's biggest lead came at 13-8 on a post up by Krystal Schwanke. Nicollet started their rally at 5:19 to go in the half. They scored on 7 straight possessions and had a 14-2 run to take a 28-19 lead with 1:46 left. Bailey Hendrycks opened with four points in the run and Kristin Hulke closed the scoring with four straight points. Springfield kept working the ball inside and Schwanke was fouled on the next two possessions. She converted three of the four free throws and Springfield cut the margin to six. Lindsey Beckendorf scored on a put back to bump the lead back to 30-22 Nicollet, but Tiffany Wilhelmi was fouled by Shannon Renne with 0.6 ticks left at mid court. Wilhelmi made both free throws and Nicollet's lead was back to six 30-24.

Nicollet opened with a 6-0 run to start the half in their first four possessions to stretch their lead to 36-24. That would prove to be their high water mark. Springfield took a time out and Wilhelmi scored on the next possession on a runner. That was the beginning of the end for Nivollet. Wilhelmi was the spark as she hit a three then added two straight steals and transition lay ups. She had 9 straight points for Springfield as the lead was cut to 36-33. Nicollet tried to stop the bleeding with a time out between Wilhelmi steals, but Nicollet was mired in a 9 possession drought. Nicollet had five straight turnovers in the downward spiral. Springfield regained the lead at 8:25 with a shot from the right elbow from Andrea Miesen. Nicollet again went into hibernation on offense, this time for 10 straight possessions. It was a 14-0 run for Springfield. Schwanke had 7 in the outburst. Nicollet couldn't generate a decent shot in the paint and had to take outside shots. They were limited to one shot, if they had a shot, on most possessions and those shots tended to be outside 15 feet or behind the arc. Nicollet was held scoreless for seven and a half minutes. Both teams emptied the benches late.
