SCHOLARSHIP REALITIES
Here is the New York Times article on the realities of college scholarships. Most don't cover the bill. Here is a quote, "parents and athletes who hoped for such money were much too optimistic and that they were unprepared to effectively navigate the system. The athletes, they added, were the ones who ultimately suffered." and another eye opener "“I dropped a good player because her dad was a jerk — all he ever talked to me about was scholarship money,” Probably well worth reading. Take off those rose colored glasses when reading.
RECRUITING/PLAYING ---AT WHAT LEVEL?
Here is what Southwestern Community College in Iowa does in their recruiting battles. They also look at the differences between men and women. From the Creston News Advertiser.
VERBAL
Maranda Dohrn of Lake City has made a verbal to UW-River Falls. Dohrn is the 63rd player in the 2008 class that is going to play basketball after college. She is the 5th known Minnesota player to go to a D3 school.
COLLEGE COACHING
The letters are coming out in favor of a coaching change at Wisconsin. From the Capital Times.
HORIZON ALL CONFERENCE
The Horizon conference has released their list. UW Green Bay had three players make the list an coach Matt Bolant was honored as co-coach of the year.
UW Milwaukee's Traci Edwards (Menasha) was named player of the year.
Cleveland State's Dominique Butler (Milwaukee Madison) was named Defensive Player of the Year.
UI Chicago's Jessie Miller (Holy Angels) made the 2nd team.
