4AAAA SEMIFINALS
CENTRAL SURVIVES WHITE BEAR RALLY 80-74
St. Paul Central seemingly had the game under control leading 49-33 at halftime. White Bear Lake who had 3 three pointers in the first half, added 7 more in the second half to push Central to the very end.
Behind Tanya Dickey, Sr. (four 3's), Carly Jensen, Soph (three 3's) and Julia Dysthe, Soph (two 3's), the Bears cut the lead to 57-53 at the 10 minute mark. Central appeared to take control again and had a 71-63 lead following 2 Kiara Buford free throws with 3:34 remaining. Dysthe hit a 3 with a minute to go and the score was 75-70. Georgie Jones hit 1 of 2 free throws with 51.1 seconds remaining and Jensen did the same for the Bears with 42.2 left. Kyana Johnson also made 1 of 2 free throws for Central with 33.5 left and Dickey followed with a 3 that brought the score to 77-74 with 15.3 left in the contest. Theairra Taylor made 1 of 2 free throws at 13.3 and WBL didn't counter. Buford ended the scoring with 2 free throws with 5 seconds left to make the final score 80-74.
Buford led Central with 20 points and 7 assists. Georgie Jones had 17 points, 15 rebounds and 5 blocked shots, Theairra Taylor had 17 points, 5 steals and 4 assists and Megan Howard added 16 points and 8 rebounds. Howard hit a free throw line jumper at the 3:34 mark in the first half for her 1000th point. She finished the night with 1006 points for her career.
Central now will meet Woodbury, who defeated Cretin-DH on a buzzer beating 3, for the Section 4AAAA title on Thursday night at Concordia University.
