2AA WEST SUBSECTION FINALS
LE SUEUR-HENDERSON giants 54,
BLUE EARTH buccaneers 42

In an upset, #2 LeSueur-Henderson rode the momentum of a fast start in the first half to beat Blue Earth 54-42. LSH led at the break 35-19. Earlier in the year Blue Earth beat LSH 48-40. LSH now will play Hayfield 46-24 winners over Byron. Blue Earth finished the year 24-3. LSH is 19-9. Four of those losses were to top 10 teams and conference rivals. Holy Family and Jordan.

Earlier I have written about Glaeser's Theorem---"To win a tournament a team has to survive a bad half." Blue Earth didn't survive their first half. LSH survived their bad second half. LSH had a pp100 of 109.4 and floor % of .500. Blue Earth scored the first basket on the old weakside back cut by Meagan Grandgenett. LSH opened with two turnovers, but on possession 3 they ran off seven straight scores and basically won the game at that point with a 15-6 lead. For the rest of the night BE tried to get back in the flow, but the stream was moving to quickly. Cassandra Meffert, the athletic post for LSH had four of those points on the way to 13 for the half. The high water mark for LSH came at half time 35-19. Meffert and Colleen Doerr combined for 23 of those points.

In the second half BE came out with much more intensity on defense. Every pass and bounce up court was challenged and LSH never had the easy time they had in the first half. Meffert and Doerr only had 3 points in the second half. But LSH did manage to squeeze time off the clock most of the time. They weren't really in a delay game, but they never could find Meffert like they could in the first half. BE was very aware of the sand shifting through the hour glass. They probably rushed too much on offense. That and foul problems reared their head. A key point came at the 4:20 mark when BE made a steal with the score 43-33. A sure fire lay up opportunity was wasted by a pass behind the receiver and the ball reverted back to LSH. The Giants came up with a transition basket for Abbie Wilson and BE never could get back to single digits.

11 years ago I coached Colleen Doerr's sister Katie. She was at the game with her new daughter Morgan. I had an AAU team at the time and had Steve Townley call down in the LSH area looking for Katie. I had looked at the numbers and thought she would be a good addition to the squad. She eventually went to MSU Moorhead and was All conference.
