RECRUITING 101
Here is the NCAA guideline for the student athlete on the recruiting process, the rules, the regulations, and requirements.

First off here is the 44 page guide for the College-Bound Student-Athlete. On page 23 it has questions to ask the college coach. Page 24 has parent information. On page 28 the rules and regs are featured. Read and study. On page 29 in has a chart showing what can happen and when it can happen.

A big part of the recruiting process is the clearinghouse and all the academic requirements. DO NOT BYPASS THIS. Get your ducks in a row in the class room now, not at the 11th hour.

Finally here is the NCAA eligibility and recruiting page with tons of resources.

ADVICE
It is not too early to start the process (especially in academics which always bite some players on the rear).
Go to a camp at the schools you are interested in. Samantha Ostrello of Stanley County, SD verballed after attending the Purdue camp this summer. Ostrello did not play a lick of AAU ball.
Student-athletes can initiate contact by mail, email, and phone. However if you call and the coaches are not there they can not call you back.
Create you own resume and letter to coaches
Get your high school coach involved. They can and will be a great resource.
Get a video/DVD ----probably DVD made. Label it. Make sure the DVD is clear and indicate what player (#33 blue) should be followed. It should not be any longer than 15 minutes. It wouldn't hurt to have an introduction, then a skills portion, maybe you shooting in the gym, then the game footage.
Do your research. You are picking a school. Coaches come and go. The school remains and the education is what you will leave with. How many doors will that open for you?

Things are moving earlier. Get moving.
