MI #7 2006 was fouled on a three point attempt with no time left. She made the first, and third and that was the difference in a 34-33 win.

Beginnings
Both Minnesota and North Dakota opened practice today. First games begin as early as November 23rd, but most will take place on the 25th. Sections begin Feb. 23 and the state tournament will be held March 15th to 18th at Target Center in Minneapolis and Williams Arena at the Campus of the University of Minnesota
Minnesota will be playing 36 minute games this year (two 18 minutes halves). Scoring will go up, but don't be fooled by bigger numbers. A 22.5 ppg now will be like 20 last year. 20 ppg now will be like 17.8 last year. 40 ppg on defense was considered tight, but that would increase to 45 now.

North Dakota's first games will take place during the week of Nov. 28th.

Endings
Michigan began Districts tonight (check out the MHSAA site for schedule). Most of the rated teams should prevail in the early round. District semis take place on Wednesday, Nov 16, most finals on Friday Nov. 18, some on Sat. Nov. 19. Updates on games to watch will be posted later.

Which states produce winners

Winning States
I have wondered which states produce winners. On page 2 in the college book I publish we know which states produce the most, but that does not measure the quality. I then looked at the wins and losses that the players in that state produced at the colleges they attended in D1. The results were interesting. On the roster the top three were

ANOKA-RAMSEY CC SHUTS DOWN
Anoka-Ramsey CC (MN) has dropped its Women's Basketball program for the 2005-2006 season. Only four players came out for the team. A-R beat Monroe NY for the NJCAA D3 Championship last year 64-60. A-R was also picked 4th in the preseason poll this year.

My memories of 5AA basketball games with Fridley (I was at Osseo) were some of the most intense games with bodies flying all over the court, the crowd hanging from the rafters--Great atmosphere.
