3AAAA CHAMPIONSHIP
EASTVIEW lightning 51,
PARK-COTTAGE GROVE wolfpack 35
Eastview's lightning quickness eclipsed PCG's power game 51-35. The Eastview defense limited PCG to seven two point field goals for the night. With the win Eastview returns to the state for the first time since 2003.
Neither team established much offense as the defenses took center stage early. Eastview forced 7 turnovers in the first 14 PCG possessions. In fact the first six points from the floor for Eastview were the result of transition turnovers. Eastview broke free from a five all tie with a 5/6 offensive sequence on an 11-2 run. PCG had a 7 possession drought at the start of the Lightning run. After a Jackie Voigt finish on a high low feed, PCG had another six possession drought. So it was 1/14 or a 14.3 pp100, and floor % of .071. Eastview had their own six possessi
on drought which left the door open for PCG. They took advantage of the opportunity with three straight scores to close to 16-13. Eastview finished the half with a mini 5-0 run to go up 21-13.
That mini run expanded into a 12-0 and a 28-13 lead with 15:08 left in the contest. It was definitely an uphill climb for the Wolfpack. All in all it was nine straight empty trips by PCG over two halves. Eastview held a comfortable margin for the rest of the contest. The lead never dipped to the single digits. PCG's Voigt tried to carry the Pack with 13 second half points, but the hole was too big. Another factor was the lack of scoring punch with only six points coming off 2 point field goals. Only Voigt and Leick were able to score more than one field goal on the night. Eastview was quicker to the ball most of the night and their defense prevented any PCG rhythm.
