6AAA SEMIFINALS
DE LA SALLE islanders 53
WACONIA wildcats 42
DeLaSalle defense and depth propelled them to victory tonight over Waconia. Every movement up the court was hotly contested. Offensively the night was bit more chillier
Neither team started off firing on all cylinders. DLS started off with a 2/10 sequence and Waconia was 1/11. The difference was Waconia turned it over 7 times, while DLS only turned it over twice. A three by Carissa Wolyniec and then by Frances Wehrwein put DLS up 10-3. Waconia suffered through another 10 possession drought later in the first half. Once again it was 7 via turnovers. DLS used that down time to tack on 10 more points to their totals as the Islanders led 24-9. 8 of the points were due to transition. DLS shut down Wacon
ia's post Scotti Moats in the first half. She only had three points, two coming on a second chancer. The score at half was 26-12 DLS. Tori Rule had 8 for DLS at the break.
Early in the second half DLS pushed the lead to 32-14 as Aaryn Booker, who had been held scoreless in the first half, scored four of the first six points. She eventually had 12 points for the night. Waconia clawed back back with a 7-0 run to close to 32-21. DLS surged back with a 9-2 run of their own for the high water mark of 41-23. Most of the rest of the evening DLS maintained leads of about 14. Waconia did get their offense flowing later with a 5/6 offensive sequence, but DLS matched their efforts. Moats matched Boooker with 12 second half points.
