This was considered an upset by many at the event. TWSD is the Junior eligible team and has 6-6-6 Anna Cole who is headed to Kentucky. TWSW was short handed with only seven players and had to rally for the win.TWSW trailed 6-0 to start the game thanks to five empty trips. The veterans quickly tied it up at 8 and zoomed out to a 15-10 lead on a 15-4 run. The Senior team then went into a nine possession drought. TWSD took advantage of that with a 10-0 run and led 20-15. Val Schuster scored five straight later in the half to cut a 7 point deficit down to 23-21. Two straight baskets by TWSD gave the younger team a 27-21 lead at half time.
TWSD led 32-25 after a basket by Briana Radowicz. That was their high water mark. TWSD had a 1/14 offensive sequence that opened the door for the seniors. The took advantage of the youngsters down time with a 15-2 run. The young guns weren't done fighting however. They scraped back with five minutes left. The seniors then took the air out of the ball. With running time and the lack of fouls to put them at the line the chances for a comeback were s
lipping away for the youngsters. On one possession the seniors maintained possession for 2 clock minutes. The Seniors were fouled and Cody Vanden Heuvel made one free throw. On the miss the youngsters took off and Katie Wolff struck from behind the arc to make it 43-41 with 1:27 left. The seniors maintained possession after a missed free throw frustrating the comeback attempt. The seniors were doing their best Memphis imitation at the line however going 2/4 leaving six point on the table. The youngsters had four cracks at points on their next possession, but didn't connect. Another 1/2 trip at the line by the seniors made it 46-41 with 30 seconds left. A missed 3 by Wolff and a rebound by Laura Olson, plus her two free throws, made the comeback insurmountable. Anna Cole, Mondovi 1, 6, 16.7, .167 6-6 post. has slimmed down from last year. Still needs to work on quickness, and footwork. traveling calls and slow release hampered her numbers.
Katie Wolff, Marshfield 8, 10, 80.0, .300 led both teams with d stops and assists. Was in over drive trying to lead her team back at the end. Hit a pair of 3s in the last few minutes.
