WORTHINGTON trojans 81, PIPESTONE arrows 75
Worthington pulled a Hillary. Things looked bleak for Worthington. They started the game 1/19 with their field goal attempts. They allowed 15 second chance points in the first half. They were outsized across the board, their average starting size is a generous 5-7, but is probably closer to 5-6. Pipestone had at least a 3.5 inch advantage to each player. The biggest Worthington starter was 5-9. The smallest Pipestone starter was 5-9. But the Trojans rallied from a 61-52 deficit with 9:40 left to pull out an important Southwest Conference win on the road over the defending AA State Champs.
Some may consider a 4 hour one way trip to watch one game a bit insane, but my Game-Dar focused in on this contest, and in the interest of bringing the best games available (and teams we haven't seen yet), Coach Teas & I left just before 3 pm for Southwest Minnesota. . Neither team had lost to a Minnesota team, but each had lost one to a South Dakota squad. Both teams are in the top 10 in their respective classes. Pipestone was #18 in the MaxPreps MN poll, Worthington #50. Also both teams were in the state tournament last year. And to top it all off, Coach Teas was a Pipestone graduate, so there were a lot of connections. I too had a Pipestone connection, and I remember going to the old school to scout a few games back in the mid 80s.
Worthington started off the contest with 8 straight dry possessions. The Trojans all have green
The game was tight at 41-39 when Pipestone ran off 8 unanswered points on four straight possessions. That stretched the lead once again to 10 at 49-39 with about 14 minutes left. Again things looked dismal for Worthington. Alyssa Smith had picked up her fourth foul at the 15:22 mark. Joining her with four was Sarah Boever at the 14:43 mark. The very next second Worthington picked up #7 and Pipestone was in the bonus. Pipestone stretched

Not only did Worthington make 6 behind the arc, they had an opportunity for 5 the old fashioned way. This was a big reason for their lower floor % number. Pipestone actually scored on 38 possessions to Worthington's 35. Pipestone was shut out behind the arc and had 3 old fashioned 3 point play attempts of which they converted two.
As far as second chance points go Pipestone had 14 first half points, but Worthington was only one behind with 13. For the game Pipestone had a clear advantage 23-17.

DEPARTMENT OF DEFENSE
Worthington played man, some times full court, most of the game.
Pipestone started man, then used a variety of zones with 2/3 used the most. They did try some 3/2. Pipestone also used a 1/2/2 press. It was used a few times. When Pipestone trailed they reverted back to man.
