MINNEAPOLIS mavericks 66, FERGUS FALLS spartans 61
If it is Wednesday it must be Community College night. Minneapolis CTC withstood a late rally by Fergus Falls to open the Southern Division play in Minnesota. It has been over a month since the last CC game, and with the high schools taking the day off the CC games presented an opportunity. The shot clock, an option in the high school season, was in full force tonight. No violations occurred.
Minneapolis built an 8-0 lead as FF didn't connect until their 10th possession. Only one was due to a turnover, the rest were missed opportunities. FF only had one crack as Charmaine Cross dominated the defensive glass early. She had 8 d rebounds in the first 12 FF possessions. FF fell into another six possession drought and Mpls pushed their lead out to 21-8. Brittany Monio had 11 points of her 19 first half markers. FF was able to narrow the margin to 34-27 at half time thanks in part to the 3ball game of Brittany Quistorff. She had four in the first half.FF's offensive attack took a hit when Quistorff picked up her 4th foul with 18 minutes to go. She immediately sat down and Minneapolis took advantage of her absence to push their lead to 43-29, their high water mark. Cross had 7 points in their 9-2 opening run in the half. The margin remained near 12 for a good part of the half. With 6:20 left FF started to make t
heir move. Quistorff returned to the line up and on her second possession she nailed a three. Soon FF connected on six straight possessions in the 13-6 run. Ashley Peterson started to penetrate and had 8 of her 9 points in the last 4:30. Her basket to finish the run cut the margin to 60-57. Mpls withstood the onslaught and pushed the margin back out to 64-59. Another Peterson drive made it 64-61 with about 10 seconds left. Quistorff picked up #5 and Jessica Ray went to the line. She failed to deliver, but the key rebound ended up in Nicole Morris' hands. She too was fouled and again didn't deliver. In the insuing scramble coach Williams from FF received a T for complaining about the lack of fouls on the rebounding attempts. Cross made one free throw, on the same possession Morris made one. Has 16 foot range. can score off the dribble. Also moves without the ball. needs to keep her feet on defense and not buy head fakes.
Brittany Monio, Stillwater (11) 23, 17, 135.3, .647 The perimeter shooter. had a knack for slipping into the open gaps of the zone in the lane for easy shots.
Nicole Morris, DeLaSalle (11) 7, 9, 77.8, .444 scored when others penetrated and she was waiting at the block.
Jessica Ray, Mpls North (11) 6, 14, 42.9, .286 point guard. physically strong. got whistled for traveling calls. was active on defense.
Amy Langenfeld, Mpls South (10) 4, 2, 200.0, 1.000 perimeter. made good choices with the ball.

Krista Shaikoski, Fergus Falls (11) 22, 25, 88.0, .440 had the strongest frame on FF. Was able to step out and hit a 3.
Ashley Peterson, Underwood (11) 9, 11, 81.8, .455 point guard. didn't really look for her shot until late when it mattered. Then she was aggressive to the glass.
