In a game that decided the championship at the Green Division level it was the youngsters from
Midtown Lady Monarchs topping Forest Lake Maroon 46-42. It was a revenge game in that MLM lost to FLM in an exhibition the first week of the fall season. None of the MLM have played varsity.......yet.It was also a game of one-two punches. Tori Rule and Diamond Lane combined for 40 of the MLM points, while Steele and Gina Lange combined for 34 of the FLM tallies.
In the first half the MLM burst free from FLM with a 9-0 run with Lane cashing in behind the arc for two of her five first half bombs and Rule scoring at the line for the rest. Lange provided a breather for FLM with a free throw and then, on the same possession, a put back after she
missed her second toss. On the next possession she added two more free throws. But FLM was 2/13 the last portion of the first half which, in the end, would prove fatal. MLM closed the half with an 8-2 run. All together the diaper dandies outscored FLM 17-5 to close the first half.FLM was still stuck in their offensive woes at the start of the second half with a 1/7 sequence. That would be a .150 floor % over two halves. MLM built their lead to 34-19, but their offensive machine had cooled off considerably too. This is the point FLM caught fire. They went on an 18-4 run to close to 38-37 and all of a sudden it was a nail biter ride to the end. FLM had five
straight scores with Lange showing her range for four and Brittany Radden adding four points of her own. The 3 point game also shifted as now it was Molly Steele stroking down 3s for FLM. She had 3 in the second half. MLM did bump the lead back to 44-39 after six straight points by Rule, some on transition, some at the line. Steele struck for her 3rd trey with under 15 seconds left to make it 44-42.
